Keep reading for more answers on how to safely and effectively get rid of birds.

Birds enjoy a much more favorable public image than rodents or insects; therefore, you need to be careful in how you get rid of birds, particularly by not harming protected species. Many people enjoy watching birds but not many enjoy the mess, disease or damaging acid-laden droppings associated with them. Because of this, birds can be unwanted pests and can contaminate and damage products, processing plants, and plant environments.

BirdBuffer® is the only bird control product that can safely get rid of birds long ter. BirdBuffer isn’t harmful to birds and is proven to redirect them away from the vapor-treated area. Methyl anthranilate, the active ingredient in BirdBuffer vapor, is natural and eco-friendly. It simply acts an irritant to the birds, naturally repelling them.

Bird droppings carry disease and are highly acidic in content – causing  disease in people, and expensive property damage.

Researchers at the University of Florida (UF) Emerging Pathogens Institute state, “Salmonella is the leading disease-causing bug overall, causing more than $3 billion in disease burden annually.” (Salmonella is present in bird droppings.) Their report lists the number of illnesses, costs, and overall public health burden of specific microbes in particular types of food-borne disease – such as Salmonella from birds.

Birds do not have separate functions for excreting liquid and solid wastes which is why bird poop is white. They do both together at the same time resulting in high acidic white droppings. This highly acidic excrement is highly damaging to equipment, planes, buildings, facilities, power plants, etc. costing businesses hundreds and thousands of dollars in maintenance and replacement costs annually.

Salmonella is listed in the top five leading bugs resulting in being the leading disease-causing bug overall, causing more than $3 billion in disease burden annually.

Most information found is regarding pigeons. They poop approximately every 15 minutes during flight totaling about 25 lbs. per year. How many birds are hanging out at your business? Multiply that number x 25 and that’s about how much waste you’re going to have to clean up – give or take a few pounds depending on the size of the birds – larger or smaller than a pigeon.

Getting rid of birds long term is challenging, but necessary if clean environments are needed for food production and sanitary work conditions. Our BirdBuffer system will dramatically reduce your  bird problems, thereby reducing bird droppings, mess and diseases (ie. Salmonella) which accompanies them.

Birds are attracted to open doors, places to roost and nest, the presence of food products (nuts, seeds, etc.), warmth from machines, leaky equipment – possible food source, and they are especially attracted to other birds and their droppings. Eliminating as many of these factors possible will greatly assist you in getting rid of the birds attracted to your facility but when it’s still not enough – there’s BirdBuffer!

  • Birds don’t like smooth, slippery or sloped surfaces.
  • Minimize anything for the birds to roost or perch on.
  • Minimize entry points (windows, dock doors).
  • Remove roof-mounted equipment.
  • Eliminate open rafters or roof beams – paneled ceilings are necessary.
  • Minimize gaps in the roof structure or where the roof joins the walls.
  • Strips of plastic, cloth, or metal hung in doorways can hinder birds from entering.o Remove or modify ledges and/or install barriers to keep birds from nesting and/or roosting in or on the storage facility.
  • Other attractive nearby roosting sites, such as large trees, may also need to be eliminated.
  • Maintain good sanitation practices so birds are not attracted to storage areas.
  • Prompt clean-up of spills and droppings. Wastes should be collected, covered, and stored appropriately outdoors away from the building.
  • Prompt removal of nests.

When birds are exposed to MA as they are roosting, you may see signs that indicate they are getting a reaction, but not enough to make them leave the area. If they have a nest, they will continue to feed the young until the entire family leaves the area or the nest is removed. During this nesting period, other birds testing the area for comfort will not want to start a nest where they feel uncomfortable. They will move to another location.

Birds have their own ways of communicating. Bird language consists of using their body language, body parts, and voices to express a wide range of emotions. Beak clicking is when the bird is trying to tell other birds it is threatened or protecting something. Beak wiping shows he is aggravated or upset or trying to dislodge something stuck in his throat.

When birds fly, their heart beat is faster, their breathing is faster. During flight they inhale enough MA particles to create an irritating reaction. They may go outside the area and perch close by to try and figure out why they had such a bad reaction or what caused it. If they cannot see something different, then they relate the area as the problem.

Birds may return to test the area again and again. New flocks coming in will continue to try the area as well as older residents returning. Their memory is locked in for hundreds of miles and they remember where they used to roost, making it necessary to continue using BirdBuffer as a long term tool to get rid of birds.
